Richard Martin has designed the unique Trivane concept. It is based on the premise that the platform for a floating wind turbine can logically be a trimaran that rotates around a turret mooring, so that it points into the wind.

Its barge construction makes it simple to build and it has a low draft, enabling it to be built in most places

Whilst turret moorings are unfamiliar to some, Richard is at home with them.  For 30 years he has been developing these systems as a founder of London Marine Consultants (LMC), who are the UK’s leading  designers of them.

Prior to that he was a founder of the marine warranty surveyors and consultants London Offshore Consultants. He worked on most types of offshore development including concrete gravity platform construction, and also on shipping claims.

Shortly after conceiving the Trivane design he registered the company Trivane Limited in 2020 to own the ongoing designs and the intellectual property rights to them. The detailed design drawings were developed and then Trivane was assisted by LMC and by work made available via Marine-I

‘Trivane’ is a combination of the words, trimaran and weathervane.
